It feels like I've been painting a lot of sunflowers, and while that's wonderful, and I love sunflowers, I wanted something darker, something moodier.

It's been too windy, and I mean really too windy, to paint outside, so I went through my photographs and found this one that I took in Ohio on my very first painting trip. I knew it was a cool painting, and I knew that sometime, I would understand how to paint it.

And so, today, I did.

I remember a man, from North Carolina, I think, who made only paintings of roads. Well, I don't remember the man, but I do remember the paintings. They were mostly big, and they were all luscious. This was 20 years ago, and I didn't have the nerve to ask him to let me pay over time, or barter something for one of those paintings. I can see them still - and while this little painting is not like his, it does bring his to mind. I still wish I had one of that man's paintings.

Was clicking through with the "next blog" button and happened to come across this. What a beautiful painting! I love it. The colors, textures... I'm just amazed, really.
