Hi, everyone - I have reshot the big painting, and it's a little better. The detail here still is dark, but this gives you a sense of what it looks like up close. Yes, you can see the curves and swipes of the trees or hillside or whatever it is when you look at the painting overall. I think that the light bouncing off all the light colors makes the lens shut down a little too much to capture the dark.

In a way, I'm glad when I make a painting that doesn't make me happy. It means I am trying something new, or that something is going on with me - it means that change is on the way.

This is a painting I made in the midst of the sun and moon stuff. It was my attempt to do the same sort of thing I was doing, but with different shapes.

I know there's something here - but whatever it is, it's not in this painting. Still, this is an interesting piece, with movement and a fluidity that's coming directly from those other paintings.

And one day, the twain shall meet.

Maybe the fog is rising. Or maybe the fog is part of the landscape, the way that leaves are part of trees, and dreams are part of waking.

Here's one thing I do know: Getting good pictures of these paintings is difficult. I don't know why, really, but my photos of these paintings are not showing the paintings to their best advantage. The dark points of land are not black in my paintings, as they look here, but dark blue, and purple and green - dark, yes, but not black.

So I will try again, but for now, this will do. I will bring these paintings to the Paradise City show in Northampton, Mass., Memorial Day weekend, if you want to see them in person.

I still don't know where all this is leading me, but I do know that I'm loving it.

Part of me says - just stop! Stop with these suns and moons, enough already. The other part of me says - see where it goes. 

And so today, I am seeing. I am listening hard to the whispers of the wind, or the universe, or the muses, or god, whatever force is greater than me, and clearly taking me somewhere. I am listening, whether the voice comes in ideas, or dreams or through people or images, I am trying to sort the courage from the fear, and stride ahead.

As I was making this painting, I did begin to wonder if this is how Vincent Van Gogh began to go nuts, painting circle around the sun.

It is so much fun to do this, it is so oddly alluring, exciting and calming at the same time, I barely know how to explain it. I do know that I am just loving these paintings, and I am following my heart and intuition here, into some unknown place that, for me, is pretty thrilling.

This photo doesn't show the painting as well as I had hoped, but I am so excited about it that I wanted to put it up on the blog anyways. The moon has some hints of a very light yellow in it, as do the spaces just above and below the horizon. The rest of it is true to color, though - and really, it's beautiful, much more beautiful than in the photo.

Yes, my heart does sing to blue. And to yellow, too, but today, it seems that blue is carrying the tune.

Hey, if you are in the area, come to the Lighthouse Gallery in Groton on Friday for a show of fishing and fish-related art and artistry. Chris Rose has invited a group of fishing types to show a bunch of different stuff, ranging from paintings and drawings to flies and lures and even a kayak. The opening is from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, and it's bound to be fun!

I have stumbled on an idea that's really jazzing me. It's to take a shape, an easy shape, and make all the strokes in the painting follow on the lines of the shape, no matter what the content.

So in this painting (you might be able to see, if you click on it and look at it large) I've painted the hills and the reflections of the hills all in the same circular stroke pattern as the sky around the sun. Cool idea, huh?

Of course, this will become more difficult as I put more complicated stuff in the paintings (houses, trees, cows), but it will be a challenge, and is bound to improve my skills. Meantime, it's really fun! And I absolutely love these paintings.

My next plan is one with all shades and tones of blue - maybe a moonscape.
